Tribute Exhibition to Kath Munro

July 2, 2018

The Art Yard is hosting a unique tribute exhibition to Kath Munro for 4 weeks to 28th July 2018.

Kathleen Beatrice Munro was born in 1917 at College Road in Birmingham and from an early age showed a remarkable talent for art.  On leaving school aged 14 years she attended Birmingham Dress design College and later night art classes before being sent to work at Belliss & Morcom Ltd during the Second World War following which her talent for art was spotted and she was transferred to the drawing office.

In 1950 Kath went to work for the Planning Department of Birmingham City Council and produced many unique artistic impressions of changing city landscapes. During her lifetime she amassed an enormous portfolio of drawings, watercolours and later photographs, some of which are on exhibition for 4 weeks at the gallery and studios.

Midland Film and Art

Midland Film and Art is a membership club where people can enjoy screenings of films or view artwork and crafts that would otherwise not be shown in mainstream cinemas or exhibitions, or be available locally. These shows usually have an educational aim, introducing new audiences to different audiovisual works through screening and display, encouraging participation in arts and crafts. A common feature that may characterize a Midland Film and Art meeting is that they either begin with an introduction to the audience and/or end with the promotion of a discussion about the film/art, where assistants, organizers and sometimes the filmmakers/artists themselves, exchange their views.
