A Ewart Chapman art exhibition

The unique industrial landscapes and portraits exhibition showing the art work of A Ewart Chapman went on display for 4 weeks from Monday, March 19th to Saturday, April 14th 2018 at The Art Yard.

MFAA member first came across Ewart's work whilst filming changes to shopping in Cradley Heath in 2006 as the new TESCO supermarket was about to impact on the town. Then the collection was held by Ewart's wife, Maud Chapman, in the attic at their home. Since the death of Maud the collection was dispersed among their children who have gathered the art works back together for this unique exhibition.

Ewart was born in 1901 and on leaving school aged 13 in 1914 became an electrical apprentice at the factory of Noah Hingley at Netherton. However, he always retained his passion for portrait paintings which he returned to on his retirement aged 63. years.

The full story is published in the March, 21st edition of The Bugle newspaper.

MFAA are particularly grateful to Mary Green and other family members for putting the collection back together and for the Graphic Design Extended Diploma students from Halesowen College for taking part in a competition to design the exhibition poster.

Midland Film and Art

Midland Film and Art is a membership club where people can enjoy screenings of films or view artwork and crafts that would otherwise not be shown in mainstream cinemas or exhibitions, or be available locally. These shows usually have an educational aim, introducing new audiences to different audiovisual works through screening and display, encouraging participation in arts and crafts. A common feature that may characterize a Midland Film and Art meeting is that they either begin with an introduction to the audience and/or end with the promotion of a discussion about the film/art, where assistants, organizers and sometimes the filmmakers/artists themselves, exchange their views.
