Final Training - TAY's Wellbeing Art Walks

Saba Yafai from Public Health, Sandwell delivered the final part of the Walk Leaders Training in the upstairs classroom at The Art Yard gallery on Thursday, 22nd June 2023.

Our 5 volunteer Walk Leaders completed their final two and a half hours of theory work in the classroom which was supported by Power Point and photo slides presentations. Saba used the opportunity to train a sixth person from an adjoining walk area.

Having completed the full training course our Walk Leaders are now able to deliver walks on approved routes. However, as the gallery is uniquely situated to the south west of Sandwell and surrounded on 3 sides by Dudley, the plan is to link some of our routes with Dudley where beneficial. Our volunteers are now moving to identify walks that will be explored by Public Health Sandwell before approval. Once the walks are shown to be safe The Art Yard team will call on artists who have expressed their interest, and the programme will begin.

Midland Film and Art

Midland Film and Art is a membership club where people can enjoy screenings of films or view artwork and crafts that would otherwise not be shown in mainstream cinemas or exhibitions, or be available locally. These shows usually have an educational aim, introducing new audiences to different audiovisual works through screening and display, encouraging participation in arts and crafts. A common feature that may characterize a Midland Film and Art meeting is that they either begin with an introduction to the audience and/or end with the promotion of a discussion about the film/art, where assistants, organizers and sometimes the filmmakers/artists themselves, exchange their views.
