Gill's Grand Day Out to Newcastle

Resident artist Martyn Harris RBSA and Harold Bloomer RSA from The Art Yard, Cradley Heath took regular gallery visitor Gill Martin on a very special day out by train to the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle. The purpose of their visit was to see the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait awards exhibition 2025.

Martyn's portrait of Gill entitled "Memories" is one of the portraits of show to the visiting public. At the gallery they were made warmly welcome by Clio Lieberman and her team and after viewing the various exhibitions stopped briefly to top Gill up with one of her favourite treats, lemon drizzle cake. A fine reward for sitting so patiently for Martyn to complete her portrait.

Gill's grand day out was later topped by a fish & chip supper!

Midland Film and Art

Midland Film and Art is a membership club where people can enjoy screenings of films or view artwork and crafts that would otherwise not be shown in mainstream cinemas or exhibitions, or be available locally. These shows usually have an educational aim, introducing new audiences to different audiovisual works through screening and display, encouraging participation in arts and crafts. A common feature that may characterize a Midland Film and Art meeting is that they either begin with an introduction to the audience and/or end with the promotion of a discussion about the film/art, where assistants, organizers and sometimes the filmmakers/artists themselves, exchange their views.
