On Thursday, May 22nd, 2025 Gerry, John & Harry of The Art Yard team were the special invited guests of Sandwell Visually Impaired on a visit to the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery to see the Rembrandt Masterpieces in Black and White exhibition, which is on for 12 days only.

Our team representatives were invited along by Richard Flatley, Chair of Sandwell Networkers Group and the Vice Chair of SVI who had obtained funds to pay for the visit from Creative Black Country.

The exhibition was facilitated by Jane, a museum & gallery tour guide, who was able to describe to our visually impaired hosts the relevant details of the artwork on show in easy to understand language.

The Art Yard team hope the visit will help to form closer relations with Sandwell Visually Impaired going forward and lead to more joint working practices.

Midland Film and Art

Midland Film and Art is a membership club where people can enjoy screenings of films or view artwork and crafts that would otherwise not be shown in mainstream cinemas or exhibitions, or be available locally. These shows usually have an educational aim, introducing new audiences to different audiovisual works through screening and display, encouraging participation in arts and crafts. A common feature that may characterize a Midland Film and Art meeting is that they either begin with an introduction to the audience and/or end with the promotion of a discussion about the film/art, where assistants, organizers and sometimes the filmmakers/artists themselves, exchange their views.
